THE SOUTHERN LAGOON AMONG NATURE AND TRADITION
Cruising towards the Southern Lagoon, a short detour is a must to fully appreciate the marvel of San Marco seen from the water. Proceeding towards the Canale della Giudecca you will be able to admire the Palladian architecture, and from there, coast along the minor islands of San Clemente, Isole delle Rose and Poveglia.
The long stretch of land that separates the Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea is the Lido Island. Cruising south, we coast Pallestrina, an island known for its hand crafted lace, its fishermen, and its beautiful beaches. We suggested a stop on this charming and uncontaminated island, to sample its typical local products and discover century old traditions passed on through the generations.
Between Pellestrina and Chioggia, we come across the natural reserve of Ca’ Roman, where you can observe protected animal species.
Lastly Chioggia, “little Venice”, the jewel of the southern lagoon, a city dating back to Roman times and home to a vast archeological patrimony. We suggest a visit to Chioggia and its “calli” and “callette” (very narrow, short streets) for a taste of history. For those who would like to prolong the pleasures of the lagoon, we suggest a dip in the sea or an aperitif along the lagoon for an absolutely unforgettable conclusion to the day.
