THE NORTHERN LAGOON AMONG ART AND CRAFTSMANSHIP
The Northern Lagoon, envelopes and guards the most precious jewels of the Venetian Lagoon, Murano, Burano, Torcello and San Francesco del Deserto.
The first island Murano, is surrounded by other small islands, that can be viewed by cruising the Canal Grande. You will be mesmerized by the alternating majestic Gothic palaces and the antique glassworks. Murano, is renowned world wide for its precious and refined glassware but its center has also been inhabited since XII.
Navigation continues to Torcello, an island known for its priceless archeological patrimony that was founded in the VII century. We suggest you view the island, by admiring the lagoon and the island of Burano from atop its bell tower. From Torcello you can quickly reach Mazzorbo that is connected to Burano, the later, famous for its multicolored houses, hand made lace, and its Bussolai (biscuits). We suggest you sample the typical products found in the characteristic shops on the island before you depart for your exploration along the uncontaminated lagoon.
From Burano you will be able to admire yet another island, San Francesco del Deserto, immersed in the green of its poplar trees, an oasis of peace and meditation. This island is host to an order of monks and can only be reached by private boat and visited at scheduled times. Coasting the Island of Sant’Erasmo, famous for its artichoke plantation, we sail south toward Venice. For those who would like to prolong the pleasures of the lagoon, we suggest a dip in the sea or an aperitif along the lagoon for an absolutely unforgettable conclusion to the day.
